Week 6 NJCAA Men's Basketball Rankings Feature Six KJCCC Teams
NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Week 6 Poll | NJCAA Division 2 Men’s Basketball Week 6 Poll
CHARLOTTE, NC – Six Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference men’s basketball teams are ranked or receiving votes as the NJCAA has released their final basketball polls of 2024 with teams set to head into the holiday break and nearly half of their regular season schedule complete.
Five of the six teams are ranked this week with one more receiving votes including one newcomer to the rankings in Coffeyville Community College after spending last week as one of the teams receiving votes in the NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball poll. Butler is the highest ranked team from the conference in either poll after moving up three spots to number five, their first time ranked in the top five since 2015. Also moving up in the rankings with a three-spot improvement is Cowley as the Tigers are 13-1 this season and lead the KJCCC with an 8-0 mark in conference play with two wins over ranked conference foes and a non-conference win against top 10 ranked Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. Following last week’s drop in the polls, Barton begins their climb back up the rankings as the Cougars are up one spot to number 17 after bouncing back from a three-game losing streak to win both of their games on the road last week while Coffeyville is 10-3 overall and ranked number 23 in this week’s poll.
In the NJCAA Division 2 men’s basketball poll this week, Johnson holds the same ranking as the prior week with the number 14 ranking and an 11-2 overall record as the lone KJCCC Division 2 team with two or fewer losses. The Cavaliers won their only game last week by a score of 89-47 over Western Iowa Tech to enter the holiday break having won 10 of their last 11 games with the only loss coming to the new top-ranked team North Central Missouri. Despite falling in their last outing by a score of 63-58 to Western Iowa Tech, Kansas City Kansas remains among the group of teams receiving votes as the Blue Devils have seen four of their six losses come by a total of 12 points with the other two losses coming to top-ranked North Central Missouri.
Men’s basketball action is now on hiatus until Friday, January 3rd when Johnson County resumes their season with a home game against Metropolitan Community College before seeing Division 1 teams get their conference schedule back up and running on January 4th with six conference battles. Conference play for Division 2 schools will begin on Saturday, January 11th as the eight conference teams will play a double-round-robin schedule against each other.
