Men's Basketball League Leaders Maintain Rankings While Others Shuffled In Latest NJCAA Polls
NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Week 12 Poll | NJCAA Division 2 Men’s Basketball Week 12 Poll
CHARLOTTE, NC – Outside of league leaders Cowley in Division 1 and Johnson County in Division 2, the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference continues to see weekly results lead to shuffling and changes to the latest NJCAA Men’s Basketball Division 1 and 2 Top 25 polls with four of the conference’s six ranked teams holding new rankings from the week prior.
Continuing to be the highest ranked KJCCC team in either poll, Cowley is ranked number eight for a second-straight week as the Tigers have opened a commanding three-game lead in the KJCCC Division 1 standings and secured a first-round bye in the NJCAA Region 6 Tournament while sporting a 23-3 overall record which includes an 18-2 mark in the KJCCC. After starting the season at number one, an up-and-down season for Barton Community College currently sees the Cougars having won eight of their last nine games which includes a current four-game winning streak to move back up to number 13 in the rankings after being ranked number 15 last week. Following a three-game losing skid that ended on Monday afternoon with a road win at Cloud County, Coffeyville drops seven spots from 14th down to 21 while still in the hunt for a top-three finish in the league while Butler is the first team outside of the rankings this week and among those receiving votes.
With just two teams ranked in the NJCAA Division 2 poll, the KJCCC continues to see conference leader Johnson County maintain a top 10 ranking by being ranked number 10 with a 24-3 overall record which includes a perfect 11-0 mark in the KJCCC. The Cavaliers have seen two of their three losses this season come to top-ranked North Central Missouri as JCCC can clinch a share of the KJCCC regular season title on Thursday night with a win at Labette. Back into the rankings once again is Kansas City Kansas as the Blue Devils earn the number 22 ranking this week and have won 10 of their past 12 games with their only losses coming to Johnson County during the stretch that dates back to the beginning of January when league play started. KCKCC needs just one win in their final three contests to secure a first-round home playoff game in the upcoming NJCAA Region 6 Tournament.
The shuffling of games and schedules that began with weather issues last week is once again in full force as games have been moved around by multiple teams in the league to try and avoid hazardous travel conditions that have affected much of the state due to a recent winter storm. Two conference games took place on Monday afternoon with another five games scheduled to take place on Wednesday evening which will be followed by four games on Thursday evening. Things should be back to a more typical schedule for the weekend as 10 games are slated across the league with both Division 1 and Division 2 play getting ready to enter the final stretch of the regular season.
